Mumbai : Naval Unit NCC, Ratnagiri is representing the Maharashtra Directorate in the All India Most Enterprising Naval Unit Competition for the year 2012. As part of the competition, the unit is conducting an ocean sailing expedition of 11 days from January 19 – 29, 2012.
The Expedition flagged off from Ratnagiri on January 19 arrived in Mumbai on Monday.
The expedition is being conducted on two 27-feet Whaler sailing boats and will touch 10 minor ports. The boats are without any propulsion machinery and would cover the distance of about 600 Kms from Ratnagiri to Mumbai and back, propelled by means of canvas sails.
The various ports along the Konkan that are being witness to the grit and determination of Ratnagiri NCC (Naval Wing) cadets are Alibagh, Revadanda, Murud, Bankot, Srivardhan, Dabol, Veldur, Jaigad, Mumbai and Ratnagiri.
There are 32 Senior Division Boys and 12 Senior Division Girls from various colleges in Ratnagiri, Kolhapur and Sawantwadi along with 15 Staff forming the expedition team. Cdr Amit K Sanyal Commanding Officer, No.2 (Maharashtra) Naval Unit NCC is the Expedition Commander.
The objectives of the expedition are to inculcate a spirit of adventure amongst the NCC Cadets besides helping them develop stamina, confidence and a sense of camaraderie.
